There are many exciting opportunities for students to grow their skills in dance, drama and music performance.
We have highly qualified music and drama teachers who will help students to reach their full potential.
Students can join the school orchestra or jazz band. Or sing in the junior and senior choirs. There are also private lessons available.
Every year there are a number of opportunities for students to be involved on the stage in our annual production - there are also two theatre opportunities available outside of College that students can also be part of.
Ashburton College are the champions for our region in the 2017 Stage Challenge. Stage Challenge is a student-led production that aims to motivate and inspire students.
Ashburton College is very successful in many sports at a National level. We currently have two shooting teams a .22prone team and an air pistol team. This year has been another very successful year shooting for Ashburton College. We won the Secondary School Team Championships for the third year in a row! Specialized Programs: Leadership, Outdoor Education, Trips
Info: We are excited about our new outdoor education programme that starts in 2018. The programme is made up of a number of Modules including:
• trout and salmon fishing including the world-renowned Ohau canals.
• the Hunts programme. This includes firearm safety and hunting trips.
• yachting programme on Lake Hood (in town).
• mountain biking and a cross country exhibition.
There are several trips on offer throughout the year. During exam times there are activities for students to participate in. During exams in November students can attend a tour and travel with students from other schools, to the top of the South Island, and kayak, swim and raft!
Accommodation: Homestay
Info: The homestay placement is very important to us. In our College'’s application form we ask a lot of questions,- we want to match you with the best possible family. We have a homestay coordinator who visits families and works very hard to make sure students are well matched. Our homestay coordinator is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – just in case there is a problem.
We have a lot of great families that are very sporty and active and love doing outside activities. Once a student is matched with a family we will send photos and information and encourage students to make contact before arrival.
Student Services & Orientation & Counseling:
To help students settle into the College they are buddied with an Ashburton College student who will make sure new students feels welcomed and find their way around. We also run an orientation program and this will give students information about living in New Zealand and Ashburton College school life. The International Director and Homestay co-ordinator are also available to support and help new students adjust and settle in to College life. We want to make sure that all students very welcomed and supported so they can make the most of their NZ experience.
The College also has male and female counsellors available to support students. We also have an experienced careers and academic advisor - who can assist students wishing to future their study at tertiary level.

Comment Fees: Students staying in a homestay family will pay $300 NZ placement fee and $300 per week. The homestay fees cover three meals per day, laundry, power and internet. Students will have their own room. The College's homestay co-ordinator will ensure that the student is well supported to adjust to living in a kiwi home.
