St Mary’s College is a Catholic School for Girls from Years 7-13. It is the oldest girls’ school in New Zealand and is consistently one of the top academic performing schools in Auckland with a pass rate over 95% at each NCEA level. These pass rates outperform most state schools and rival private school education pass rates. It offers a broad and dynamic curriculum and a complete range of quality experiences to support and develop students to their potential. The school has 1000 students and 40 international students and prides itself on the level of personal care and academic support that results in students achieving the necessary qualifications to pursue pathways in tertiary education.

Music / Performing Arts

The St Mary's College world renowned Music School is carrying on the tradition of excellence by providing many opportunities for students to learn a musical instrument or participate in choral singing.
The College offers a wide range of music ensembles including orchestras, chamber orchestras, concert bands, senior and junior choirs. More specialised ensembles are also available for students who are more experienced in playing their instrument. School music and drama productions provide opportunities for students to gain further confidence in stage presentation and public performance.

St Mary's has a great sports focus with outdoor education camps, which aim to provide students with the opportunity to experience a range of exciting and challenging activities in the outdoors. Senior Physical Education students participate in an adventure-based learning programme which includes the challenging High Ropes Course in addition to various leadership and team building activities.

Info: The College is located in one of Auckland's most safe and respectable suburbs, Ponsonby, in Central Auckland, a 10 minute walk to Auckland’s CBD/city centre. It offers a beautiful and spacious environment for students to learn with park-like surrounds and spectacular views overlooking Auckland City and the Waitemata Harbour. It has magnificent buildings and spacious grounds with extensive modern facilities.

Info: Service - Students are encouraged to take part in a number of opportunities to serve both our school and wider community.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award – this is offered to students in Year 10 to 13. Participants can progress through Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. Expeditions occur throughout the year. Students also work independently to complete the other components of the Award; Service, Skill and Physical Recreation.
Cultural Groups – these groups meet regularly and share language and customs with other students . Cultural richness and diversity are honoured and all nationalities are respected at St Mary’s.
Clubs – a wide variety of clubs aimed to have fun in the inclusive school spirit are offered


Accommodation: Homestay

Info: St Mary’s offers excellent homestay accommodation with a committed homestay manager who looks after all student accommodation. Most host families live in our local school community and nearly all have families have students who come to St Mary’s. Each homestay is reference checked and offers international students and their families in their home country comfort that they are being looked after and supported in a happy and safe home.

Student Services & Orientation & Counseling:

Student Support
Student support at St Mary’s College reflects the Mercy Spirit of being caring and kind to each other. There are school guidance counsellors and an international ambassador programme designed to integrate international students into the St Mary’s school life. Each international student gets the support and friendship of St Mary’s students in their classes and throughout their stay at the school, especially when they first start.
